Recent CCS News and Updates - Tuesday, March 2, 2010
CCS recently attended the Texas Homeland Security Conference at the San Antonio Gonzalez Convention Center on February 15-18th. This year we had for the first time two of our solutions on display: the Mobile Emergency Response Center (MERC) and the MERC pCom. We were fortunate enough to have the Texas National Guard bring one of their recently purchased MERC trailers to the show for display along with their Texas Interoperable Communication Package (TICP). This package consisted of 6 VoIP phones, Public Internet and Wi-Fi with 11 drops, DOD Network with 15 drops, 6 ThinLan Computers, 1 MFC Color Printer, a Cisco IPICS Radio Bridge, 4 Motorola XTL Land Mobile Radios for VHF, UHF, and 800 MHz,a 1.2 Meter fly-away AVL sat dish, a 40 foot pneumatic mast, and roof mounted LMR antennas.
What was impressive about all of this technology is that they did not have this housed in a 40 foot mobile command center, but in a 16 foot enclosed trailer with 2 workstations! As I walked around the showroom floor and look at some of these larger mobile command centers, I could not help but notice that most of them had less technology than the Guard trailer while costing hundreds of thousand dollars more. The Guard was able to purchase their MERC for under $60,000! I know it is nice to have a bathroom and a kitchen in your command center, but I think that money would be better spent on the communication equipment that can actually save lives. I have been saying this for 5 years now, spend your money on the communication equipment and not the trailer or RV!
Also attending the Conference with us was Rusty Pucket with SquireTech Solutions. We partner with SquireTech on the MERC pCom which is aligned very well with our concept of a small mobile communication platform. SquireTech also provides one of the most robust and affordable satellite network packages available. They have quite a presence in the oil and gas market and are now moving into the Public Sector arena. We expect to do great things with SquireTech in 2010.
We continue to follow up with National Guard Units from the NGB Conference in Orlando this past December. As the funding rolls out for this fiscal year, many of these Guard Units are starting to look at mobile communication platforms as part of their emergency response plans take shape. We are fortunate to already count the Texas National Guard and New York National Guard as our customers, but hope to add some more Guard Units this year as interest in our offers grow.
I am ready for winter to be over and for Spring to rush in! Hopefully the optimism that comes with the new season will have a positive impact on our country and economy in 2010.
